Paeslers Motivvorlage sind Stoffmuster, die an Wolldecken, Burlington-Socken oder Burberry-Mäntel erinnern. Diese überträgt sie präzise und glatt in Malerei – es bleibt die Oberfläche, nicht der Stoff. Vordergründig wirken die Arbeiten damit wie geometrisch abstrakte Kompositionen. Die gewählten Stoffmuster deuten jedoch an, dass es um mehr als Farbe und Form geht: Sie signalisieren Status und Zugehörigkeit zu einem bestimmten Milieu, funktionieren also als soziale Codes. Verändert sich die Gesellschaft, ändern sich auch diese Codes. Welche Signale zählen heute – und wer liest sie wie?

Paesler's motifs are fabric patterns reminiscent of woollen blankets, Burlington socks or Burberry coats. She transfers these precisely and smoothly into her paintings – what remains is the surface, not the fabric. At first glance, the works appear to be geometrically abstract compositions. However, the chosen fabric patterns suggest that there is more to them than colour and form: they signal status and belonging to a certain milieu, thus functioning as social codes. As society changes, so do these codes. Which signals count today – and who reads them and how?
