Petra Trenkels Malerei ist nüchtern und sachlich; ihr Interesse gilt weniger den Geschichten als dem genauen Hinsehen. So sind auch die Porträts von Gertrud, Misha und Oliver neutral ausgeleuchtet und ohne einen Hinweis auf Milieu oder Status gemalt; der Blick kann sich ganz auf die Person richten. Indem Petra Trenkel soziale Marker ausblendet, zeigt sie exemplarisch, wo Deutungen beginnen. Vor dem Hintergrund der Demographic Shifts stellt sich damit die Frage, wie und woran wir heute Identität festschreiben und welche Stereotype wir heranziehen.

Petra Trenkel's painting is sober and objective; she is less interested in stories than in looking closely. The portraits of Gertrud, Misha and Oliver are also lit neutrally and painted without any reference to milieu or status; the viewer's gaze can focus entirely on the person. By omitting social markers, Petra Trenkel exemplifies where interpretations begin. Against the backdrop of demographic shifts, this raises the question of how and on what basis we define identity today and which stereotypes we draw on.
