Niederländischer Künstler
Olav Stein widmet sich Nahrungsmitteln. Mit seiner Wurst- und Brötchenserie spielt er auf die – damals klassische – Pausennahrung an, die in seinen Fotografien allerdings eher wenig zum Hineinbeißen einlädt. Vor neutralem Hintergrund und stark vergrößert erscheinen sie wie Laborpräparate. Damit verweist Stein auf die Künstlichkeit industriell erzeugter Lebensmittel. Aus heutiger Sicht lässt sich an die Debatte um „ultra-processed food“ denken, dessen gesundheitliche und gesellschaftliche Folgen angesichts wachsender (bio)technologischer Herstellungsverfahren zunehmend kontrovers diskutiert werden.

Olav Stein focuses on food. With his sausage and bread roll series, he alludes to what was once the classic snack, although his photographs do not exactly make you want to take a bite. Against a neutral background and greatly enlarged, they appear like laboratory specimens. In this way, Stein refers to the artificiality of industrially produced food. From today's perspective, this brings to mind the debate about ‘ultra-processed food’, whose health and social consequences are increasingly controversial in view of growing (bio)technological production processes.
