Wie Kirkeby nutzt auch Nicole van den Plas Landschaft als Projektionsfläche für subjektive Empfindungen und beleuchtet damit das Verhältnis von Mensch und Natur. Anders als Kirkeby, der das Körperhafte der Natur betont, richtet van den Plas den Blick auf das Atmosphärische, Flüchtige. In ihren Zeichnungen sind Natur- und Landschaftselement mitunter nur sehr zart angedeutet und scheinen sich fast im Ungreifbaren zu verlieren. Ihre Arbeiten lassen sich somit als „mindscapes“ lesen, in denen natürliche und mentale Zustände untrennbar verbunden sind.

Like Kirkeby, Nicole van den Plas uses landscape as a projection surface for subjective feelings, thereby illuminating the relationship between humans and nature. Unlike Kirkeby, who emphasises the physicality of nature, van den Plas focuses on the atmospheric, the fleeting. In her drawings, elements of nature and landscape are sometimes only very delicately hinted at and seem to lose themselves in the intangible. Her works can thus be read as ‘mindscapes’ in which natural and mental states are inextricably linked.
