Vergänglichkeit, Altern und Verfall wird in der Kunst seit Jahrhunderten in sogenannten Vanitas-Stillleben thematisiert. Ebenso wie Hanna Rut Neidhardt knüpft auch Felicitas Aga an diese Tradition an. Mit der Darstellung verderblicher Lebensmittel, die bereits sichtbar an Frische eingebüßt haben, greift sie zwar die klassischen Motive in solchen Stillleben auf, zeigt aber mit Pilzen, Knoblauchzehen und Zitronen in Netzen solche, die in unsere heutige Lebenswelt gehören. Trotz allen Fortschritts gibt es Vergänglichkeit und Altern – vielleicht ist es genau das, was uns als Menschen ausmacht?

Transience, ageing and decay have been themes in art for centuries in so-called vanitas still lifes. Like Hanna Rut Neidhardt, Felicitas Aga also draws on this tradition. By depicting perishable foods that have already visibly lost their freshness, she takes up the classic motifs of such still lifes, but with mushrooms, garlic cloves and lemons in nets, she shows those that belong to our modern world. Despite all progress, transience and ageing exist – perhaps that is precisely what defines us as human beings?
