Oder ein Hinweis, das hinter „großen“ Männer und Taten oft unsichtbare weibliche Arbeit steht?

Charlotte Malcolm-Smith combines painting with textile techniques. She works with fabric, sewing and weaving, sometimes directly onto the canvas. These activities are historically associated with domestic and care work, which are traditionally considered female roles. In contemporary art in particular, they are used to challenge gender roles and the value systems associated with work. In the small collages, the heroic title Ritter (knight) encounters ‘soft’ materials. Is this an ironic commentary on the cliché of the woman waiting for her knight? Or a hint that behind ‘great’ men and deeds there is often invisible female labour?
